Nevron Software
Specializing in component-based data visualization technology for a wide range of Microsoft applications and platforms, Nevron Software has positioned itself to be a market leader in component-based BI.
To achieve their breakthroughs in data visualization, Nevron has developed a set of essential components needed for enterprise-grade digital dashboards, scorecards, diagrams, maps, MMI interfaces and other BI relevant tasks. Nevron aims to expose these essential BI modules for all major .NET platforms. They provide a consistent product line that streamlines the development of BI and scientific data visualization solutions at all organization levels – from developers to IT professionals.
The .NET Vision suite is their flagship product, which targets .NET developers. It includes:
- Chart for .NET - a charting solution for desktop and web applications that delivers a complete set of 2D and 3D charting types, gauges, flexible axes, statistical and financial formulas, and a wide range of other advanced charting features.
- Diagram for .NET – a Visio-like diagramming framework for desktop and web applications that makes it easy to create complex graphs, flowcharts, networks, maps, UML and general-purpose diagrams. It comes bundled with advanced automatic layouts and provides many extensibility options.
- UI for .NET - a large suite of skinnable WinForms UI controls. It includes a powerful docking library, command bars and a set of 70+ extended/custom WinForms controls.
The SQL Server Reporting Services Vision and SharePoint Vision suites target report authors and IT professionals that seek advanced and consistent data analysis packed with award-winning data visualization.
It is interesting that Nevron managed to create almost identical dashboarding solutions for the Reporting Services and SharePoint ecosystems. This involved making a pivot engine similar to the one that Reporting Services internally uses to aggregate the data. In addition, they developed a web UI that mimics the desktop UI they already have in their mature Reporting Services product line. Both suites are designed to build on top of the .NET Vision products, so that additional/custom data visualization tasks can be performed by developers who are already familiar with the Nevron products, or through Nevron consulting services.
“What is particularly exciting is that our award-winning data visualization technology is now available in a SharePoint environment,” explains Nevron Software’s CTO, Ivo Milanov. "This is a must-have charting package if you are using SharePoint in your enterprise. Nevron Chart for SharePoint helps you add advanced and interactive pivot charting to your SharePoint projects. The level of functionality found in our product is comparable only to the big-name enterprise reporting tools; however, Nevron Chart for SharePoint is the only solution of its type - combining very robust charting functionality with a flexible configuration inside of SharePoint.”
“We are going to address a lot of key user demands in 2010,” Ivo Milanov continues. “Among these would be full support for Adobe vector formats like Flash and PDF and support for Microsoft Silverlight. We are also planning to expand the SSRS Vision and SharePoint Vision suites with pivot maps and pivot trees and a large list of new features.”
A Buzz Lightyear Decade
These visionary BI companies should be on the radar of any IT manager who has a stake in corporate performance management and the dashboarding of mission-critical business knowledge. While it is true there still exists a limitless amount of improvement that can be made in BI archticture and tool sets - from dashboard widgets to data cubes - and especially with respect to data integration and federated access, the next generation of BI solutions offers tremendous improvements and advantages over "old world" posibilities.
Component-based data visualization, on-demand cloud computing models, open source and data mashups are revolutioninzing the way that business and IT leaders utilize and benefit from business intelligence technology, with improved affordablity, agility and performance. Rest assured that the forward progress of BI will continue unabated in 2010. As Buzz Lightyear proclaimed in the deftly animated movie Toy Story: “To infinity and beyond!”
