A friend of mine forwarded me this data visualization on how whiskies compare to each other. As a Scotch whisky lover, I found the data visualization informative and clean. However, I would have liked the image to be bigger so the labels were easier to map to the points.

For those new or relatively new to whisky, a legend explaining the attributes of Light, Rich, Delicate, and Smoky helped greatly. I recommend starting somewhere on the lower left hand corner such as Glenfiddich 12 year old. Abelour 10, which is not on the visualization, is a good starter single malt, as well.
Not surprisingly, my favorite whisky, Lagavulin 16 Yr Old, is a full-bodied and smoky single malt scotch. Ah, the taste of the earth.
