A Dashboarding Ancestor

I recently stumbled upon some information that can be consider an ancestor of the modern dashboard - check out these interesting charts from the 1870 U.S. census (the "Ninth Census").  The three visualizations offer a fascinating look at the 19th century U.S.:

Population & race/immigration data (by state)

A fiscal chart (showing revenues, expenditures and the public debt from 1789 to 1870)

And the "distribution of deaths" and diseases (by sex, per state)

Captivating data, no doubt - but it's not surprising a lot has changed in 140 years.  Especially the public debt!
