Veteran educator Nella Garcia knows the best teachers understand their students, better than their subject matter. But until she participated in a pilot program using technology to share information across her school’s entire teacher and administrator network, she didn’t realize how much more successful teachers could be, and how much better students could learn, with the right information in the right hands at the right time.

Garcia, Director of Teacher Development at Houston-based and nationally acclaimed YES Prep Public Schools, said she’s more enthusiastic about the 2009-2010 school year than she has been since entering the classroom for the first time as a certified teacher in Texas public schools. Her excitement, she says, is due to the success she’s seen working hand in hand with Hitachi Consulting, the IT and service company of Hitachi Ltd., to implement the school’s new package of business intelligence processes and technologies. The program, called Navigation, is a system of dashboards and informational displays designed to help teachers share lesson plans, sample quizzes, tests and more.
