Last week I attended Enterprise Data World in San Francisco and gave a workshop related to using dashboards as part of an organization’s data management initiative. Aside from feeling a little like a fish out of water talking about dashboards and data visualization at a conference devoted to data management, I realized that it is definitely a topic that should be explored much more than it is. Instead, each area within business intelligence and data management are still fairly siloed in the same way many organizations manage their data. However, it seems like the best way to actually manage disparate data entities, ensure effective governance and stewardship initiatives, and successfully manage the overall flow of data should include a data visualization component to provide alerts and a high level view of project metrics.
